Institute of History In-service Master's Program Student Handbook

I. Course Requirements and Credits

1. In-service Master's Program students must complete 24 course credits and 6 thesis writing guidance credits to graduate.

2. Students who did not major in history must take an additional 3 credits in Historical Methodology.

3. In principle, in-service Master's students must enroll in two courses totaling six credits each semester. If unable to do so, they must submit a form explaining the reasons and formally apply to the Institute within one week of the semester's start, subject to the director's approval.

II. Required Credits in Different Fields

Master's students must take 12 credits each in the fields of Chinese History and Taiwanese History. (This requirement does not apply to new students admitted in or after the 2021 academic year.)

III. Determining Research Direction and Advisor

1. In-service Master's students should consider their future research direction while taking courses and consult with the Institute's faculty. By the end of May in the second semester of the first year, they must decide on a research topic and invite a full-time faculty member (including honorary professors) to serve as their advisor. During the first and second semesters of the second year, students must enroll in Thesis Writing Guidance (I) and Thesis Writing Guidance (II), totaling 6 credits.

2. Each advisor in the in-service Master's program should guide no more than three theses per cohort.

IV. Master's Thesis Publication

Master's theses should be publicly accessible. If the publication is delayed, the period should not exceed five years and cannot be permanently restricted.
